Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the FoodLabel app (hereby referred to as "Application") for mobile devices that was created by David Collado Sela (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a Freemium service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".

Information Collection and Use

The Application uses voice input and may access your device's microphone to help you organize food containers. This access is requested with your explicit permission and is used solely for the purpose of:

  • Processing voice commands to label and organize food containers
  • Converting speech to text for food descriptions
  • Providing AI-powered suggestions for food storage and expiry dates
  • Helping you track and manage your kitchen inventory

Important: Most of the time your speech is turned into text directly on your device, and the audio never leaves it. If your language is not supported for on-device transcription, the Application uses Apple's speech recognition service instead, which means the audio is sent to Apple to be turned into text. The Application never saves your voice recordings and never shares them with anyone else. How Apple handles audio sent for transcription is explained in Apple's own privacy information, linked below.

Data Processing and Storage

The Application uses advanced AI algorithms to help you manage your food inventory. This includes:

  • Voice recognition and natural language processing
  • Food identification and categorization
  • Smart expiry date suggestions based on food type
  • Container and location organization

Food identification, categorization and expiry date suggestions are all worked out on your device. Speech is handled as described above, and your food data is synced through your own iCloud account as described in the next section.

iCloud Sync and Sharing

The Application saves your food data in your own iCloud account so that it stays up to date across your devices. This is turned on by default and covers the storage locations you create (such as a fridge, freezer or pantry) and the containers kept in them, including their contents, quantities and expiry dates.

This information is held in your personal iCloud account rather than on servers run by the Service Provider, and the Service Provider cannot read it.

The Application also lets you share a storage location with other people, such as family members or housemates. If you choose to share one, the people you invite receive access through iCloud to that location and the items kept in it, and they may be able to make changes to it. Sharing only happens when you choose to start it, and you manage it from the Application.

Third Party Access

The Application only uses third-party services for:

  • App Store distribution and updates
  • Apple speech recognition, iCloud sync and iCloud sharing, as described above
  • Analytics to understand how the Application is used and improve it (without collecting personal identifiers)
  • In-app purchases processing

Analytics are provided by TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. It is used only to understand how the Application is used so it can be improved. No advertising identifier (IDFA) is collected, and no data is sold or shared for advertising purposes. The identifier used to count devices is turned into a hash on your device before it is sent.

Please note that the Application utilizes third-party services that have their own Privacy Policy about handling data. Below are the links to the Privacy Policy of the third-party service providers used by the Application:

Data Security

The Application is built so that your food data stays under your control. The Application:

  • Never saves your voice recordings and never shares them with anyone else
  • Keeps your food data in your own iCloud account, not on servers run by the Service Provider
  • Works out food suggestions and expiry dates on your device using on-device AI
  • Only shares a storage location with other people when you choose to share it
